Pick five contacts and send them an encouraging text

Did you ever prank somebody with a “text bomb”? Here’s a twist on that idea.

Instead of pranking or harassing someone, use the power of SMS text messaging to spread love and encouragement by text bombing five people on your contact list. It’s a quick and easy way to show love to friends, family and acquaintances!

Ready to join in? It’s simple!

Pick five contacts and send them an encouraging text message.

It doesn’t have to be long. It can be as simple as “Hope you’re having a good day. I believe in you.”

Everyone is a candidate for one of these messages: parents, children, extended family, classmates, former classmates, coworkers, you name it.

Here’s how it works: rapidly scroll through your contacts, then use your finger to stop at one at random. Send an encouraging text to that person. Even if you haven’t talked to them in a long time, think of something about them you appreciate, or an encouragement you want to send their way. Then repeat this process five times.

It takes less than 10 minutes, and it spreads kindness in unexpected ways. Why not give it a shot?

We did this, and it led to some conversations with people we haven’t talked to in years. It also made us think of reasons we were grateful for them. We’ll be doing these text bombs often!

Here are some fun variations on this idea:

  • Call someone you haven’t talked to in a while, just to say hi and ask how they are doing
  • Write five snail mail letters of encouragement (or send postcards!). This takes a little longer, but will be all the more special.
  • Send five short emails of encouragement and appreciation to people from your contacts
  • Message five people on Facebook and tell them one thing you appreciate about them

Did you try any of these? Do you have other ideas for sharing messages of encouragement and appreciation? Please share in the comments!
